MagicLight and StoryboardHero, field by field
MagicLight and StoryboardHero read differently on all six fields: board output, camera, cast, panel edits, to video and board export. They read alike on none. From 2 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
| Field | MagicLight | StoryboardHero |
|---|---|---|
| What the storyboard comes back as | Image panels | Panels plus lists |
| How the camera angle is set | Set on the panel | Written into the shot |
| How the cast stays the same | Defined cast | Held by the tool |
| How one panel is changed | Pose and angle settings | Human sketch artist |
| How the board turns into video | Generated clips | None given |
| Whether the board leaves as a file | None given | Files |
Inclusion rule. The six fields every board tool on the register is read on. Order. The order the fields take on every tool sheet.
1What sets the two apart
They differ on every field. MagicLight draws image panels, sets pose, expression and camera angle on each one, defines a cast by name and look, adjusts scenes through those settings and renders a full-length drama without describing a board export. StoryboardHero pairs panels with a structured script whose columns hold the camera angle, says the tool keeps characters consistent, falls back on its sketch artists for a redraw and stops at the board, exported as branded PDFs.
2The differing fields, in the vendors' words
Four of the six differing fields are quoted below; the other two, the move to video and board export, are in the table above.
